The Town Attorney's Office is responsible for all duties defined in Chapters 3 of the Town Charter. The office is led by Town Prosecutor, Matt Clifford, who was appointed by the Town Council.
Mission
The mission of the Thatcher Attorney's Office is to deliver outstanding legal services to the Town by:
- Providing sound legal advice and superior legal representation to Town officials to help them achieve their goals
- Representing the Town in litigation matters
- Protecting public health, safety, and welfare by effectively prosecuting misdemeanor-level crimes
Counsel
The Town Attorney's Office provides legal counsel to the:
- Mayor
- Town Council
- Town Departments
Prosecution
In addition, the Town Attorney's Office prosecutes the criminal violation of:
- Town Ordinances
- State misdemeanor statutes
- Gross misdemeanor statutes
Divisions
The office is comprised of three divisions:
- Civil Division - Provides counsel and advice to the Mayor, the Town Council, and each of the Town's administrative departments and offices
- Civil Litigation Division - Prosecutes and defends all civil claims on behalf of the Town in state and federal court
- Criminal Division - Prosecutes petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor, and gross misdemeanor criminal violations that occur within Thatcher
